Why We Believe

We at St. Luke's believe why we believe is almost as important as what we believe. Our beliefs are founded in the historic confessions of the Christian faith found in the words of the Apostle's and the Nicene Creeds.

We are a community of Christians who believe that Jesus is both God and man. He was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life and willingly gave His life for our sins. He was crucified, died, was resurrected and ascended into heaven and now sits at the right hand of God the Father. We believe that all who place their faith and trust in Him receive eternal life.

We believe Jesus' words "I AM the way the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."  John 14:6 (NIV)

However, a Christian's faith goes well beyond just belief. Faith is more than a mental assent to the existence of Jesus Christ and His complete work on the cross. Faith is personal and experiential. It is not just believing that Jesus Christ died for our sins and receiving His work on the cross, it's knowing that these things are true. It's living in the assurance that we have everlasting life through Him and that He lives in the heart of every person who has put their faith and trust in Him.

We know these things are true because He lives inside of us and we see His work of transformation in ourselves and in the lives of those around us. So we willingly pledge our lives, our hearts and everything we are to the Lordship of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
